New Yarra Valley Grammar school building sets the benchmark for advanced security

* Yarra-Valley.jpgThe new Yarra Valley Grammar Maths and Science building has set the benchmark for advanced security by installing the latest in wireless access control systems with API Locksmiths' SALTO system.

The building, recently opened by the Governor General Sir Peter Cosgrove, features a stand-alone system that offers a flexible, secure and convenient alternative to out-dated key control systems.

While traditional access control requires extensive wiring of every door, SALTO is essentially wireless and is particularly cost-effective for use in schools as it also eliminates the perpetual cost of re-keying.

Access and key control is a particular challenge for schools of all sizes, as one misplaced key results in a breach in security and opens the door to unwelcome intruders. Schools that have yet to upgrade to an electronic solution have little control over how many keys have been issued and are in use.

With security as the permanent number one priority, schools in particular realise the importance of prevention over response. SALTO's report capabilities let authorities know whether the doors are locked or unlocked, and control who can enter the building and when.

Using the latest in electronic access control technology, SALTO provides real-time communication with state-of-the art battery powered escutcheons. The battery also cuts down on energy costs as it does not need to be permanently connected to a main power source.

Yarra Valley Grammar School Facilities Manager, Mr Peter Tiberi said "We were looking for a holistic solution to secure our unique facility that was cost-effective and easy to use. After a lot of research into the market, we found SALTO to be the most efficient system in terms of security, operation and cost.

"The installation by API Locksmiths was surprisingly easy and we've had no issues with it at all. We installed the system across the building so it has full lock-down capabilities, and of course protects what's inside as well - our computer labs, IT rooms and so forth" he added.
