Imtech Toegangstechniek fully implements Field Service Suite from ORTEC and Sigmax

Imtech Toegangstechniek (Access and Security) engineers have already been using a mobile software application on a handheld computer for the past two years, and recently Imtech also implemented the advanced Field Service Suite planning system from ORTEC and Sigmax.

This allows planners to monitor the current situation on the ground in real time via a seamless link between the planning system and mobile devices in the field.

Imtech Toegangstechniek made a deliberate decision to go live with the mobile software first - in the initial phase of the project - and not to introduce the planning software until a later, second phase. Rik Kant, Service Manager at Imtech Toegangstechniek, explains:

"For us it was important to start by doing away with the paper processes in the field and replacing them with a computerized mobile system. In the past, we would fax work orders to the engineers every evening, and they in their turn would log information on job completion and materials used on paper; a system that was time-consuming and very prone to error. Just implementing the mobile solution on its own has meant we can invoice our customers for maintenance and servicing work more quickly."

The introduction of the planning system means Imtech is now able to send all work orders to engineers automatically. The solution takes account if engineers' qualifications and the requirements for the job, hours of work at the customer's business and appointments agreed with Imtech Toegangstechniek customers. The direct link between the planning system and mobile devices enables planners to see the current situation on the ground in real time, allowing Imtech Toegangstechniek to respond to changes in the planning with ease and to inform its customers of changes ahead of time.

Rik Kant: "For us it was important to achieve an effective crossover between the 'old' and the 'new' planning system in Field Service Suite. This would enable us to contact customers for whom we carry out a major annual service well in advance and keep them informed. The phased approach offered by ORTEC and Sigmax enabled us to do this successfully. Maintenance projects are now transferred completely automatically from our ERP system to the daily planning program in Field Service Suite. We received full support at every stage of the process of testing and implementing the systems, so that when it came to going live the whole thing went virtually without a hitch".

Imtech Toegangstechniek also has plans to move to using Field Service Suite for inspections in the future. This enables engineers to view the full range of detailed work instructions and drawings for an inspection on a tablet.
