Kwikset releases its first sleek, modern electronic lock

* Kwikset-Obsidian.jpgWith Obsidian, Kwikset offers homeowners who love modern design and technology a stylish and secure option for their doors. Obsidian is an extremely slim, modern, key-free electronic lock that can be controlled using a responsive touchscreen.

It is the first Kwikset electronic deadbolt to forego traditional keys in favor of a low-profile design.

"Obsidian is a breakthrough electronic lock for Kwikset as it's the first to be designed specifically for style-conscious consumers, without compromising technology and security," says Jason Tu, Kwikset Product Manager, Spectrum Brands, Inc. - Hardware and Home Improvement Division. "With the launch of Obsidian, we are giving discerning homeowners a modern electronic lock that fits their individual design preferences."

Cutting-Edge Features for Kwikset's Obsidian Electronic lock:
Low-Profile Design: Obsidian is a key-free, low profile electronic lock, projecting less than an inch off the door.

Convenient Touchscreen: Obsidian features a convenient responsive exterior touchscreen that quickly illuminates upon touch for faster code entry. The illuminated screen reveals a crisp white LED display designed for both day and night lighting.

Patented Security: The exterior touchscreen of Obsidian features SecureScreen technology, helping prevent against unwanted entry commonly associated with other touchscreen products. With SecureScreen, users are prompted to touch two random numbers before entering their access code to encourage fingerprints across the screen.

Backup Power: In case the batteries run out, Obsidian features a 9V terminal at the bottom of the deadbolt exterior that acts as a backup power source to display the touchscreen for code entry. Unlike other key-free smart locks, the terminal is unobtrusive and discreet.

Obsidian is available for purchase now at select retailers for the suggested retail price of $179. For homeowners with smart security systems, Kwikset plans to release Obsidian with Home Connect technology later this year, which will give homeowners the flexibility to choose a system that works for them, their families and their homes. Obsidian with Home Connect will be among the first smart locks to feature Z-Wave Plus(tm) with the latest Z-Wave 500 chipset, which enables extended wireless range, and superior network security and encryption.
