Industry mourns loss of door hardware innovator Arthur V. Geringer
US Electronic security and door hardware icon Arthur V. Geringer has passed away on Sept. 5. He was 93. Geringer was a door hardware innovator who pioneered the design and practical application of electricity to door openings for security and fire/life-safety industries.
Geringer founded Security Door Controls in 1972. The company provided the following obituary in his honor:
As the inventor of numerous electronic lock designs, Geringer is credited with ushering in the modern era of access control hardware with his development of the 90° throw electric lock. Now commonly used, his creation opened the potential of electric locking capabilities and began the great migration to electric locking systems.
