Applied DNA catches Irish robber blue/green-handed

Already the bane of Swedish car thieves, Applied DNA Sciences has now notched its first armed-robbery criminal conviction in Ireland.

The latest international adventure for the Stony Brook-based anti-theft and product-authentication specialist and its ever-evolving roster of vertical markets takes us to the Emerald Isle, where evidence gathered through the biotech's SigNature DNA platform has helped convict a thug involved in a violent theft.

DG3 Locksmithing launches new Reversible Lock-kill

DG3 Locksmithing has announced the release of a brand new product called Reversible Lock-kill. The company says this new product is an improvement over the original Lockkill design because it is completely reversible and does not destroy the lock.

This prevents the lock from having to be drilled out to gain re-entry. Once reversed the original key will work in the lock as before.

After recently viewing this short virtual animation showing a new and innovative access control device LASN contacted Robert Simpson of RDS Innovations Limited to tell us more.

Robert said that it was whilst working as a mobile car telephone/stereo/alarm fitter that he was involved in a serious road traffic collision that left him severely injured and with a total and permanent disability. During convalescence he was watching a lot of TV and it was while watching a UK Police drama that he had an idea.

NCSC releases Security Advisory

The United Kingdom's National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has released a report updating its guidance on Turla Neuron malware, which provides a platform to steal sensitive data. NCSC provides enhanced cybersecurity services to protect against cybersecurity threats.

Home security firm ADT flops in IPO debut

A rocky debut for US home security firm ADT. Shares in the company fell as much as 13.9 per cent to $12.06 on its first day of trading on Friday, less than two years after private equity owner Apollo acquired the business via a massive leveraged buyout.

The lurch lower is another setback for ADT, which already had to price its initial public offering below its target range after selling fewer shares than planned. The company, which provides alarm systems and security monitoring services to homes and businesses, priced its shares at $14 a piece, below the original target range of $17-$19.

£12m security bill for North East hospitals as thousands of staff and patients are attacked

Health bosses have spent more than £12million on security in the last five years amid a rise in attacks on NHS staff and patients. A total of 4,249 'physical and non-verbal' assaults were recorded at hospitals in the North East between April 2012 and March last year - an average of two a day.

Mitie has become a platinum associate member of the National Business Crime Solution (NBCS), an organisation that provides a collaborative approach to tackle cross-border, serious, and organised crime.

NBCS enables the sharing of data between law enforcement agencies and the business community to reduce crime and risk. The not-for-profit organisation facilitates a central repository where business crime data can be submitted, shared and analysed. Rewards and penalties: taking bold steps to protect your company's data

A study from Veritas Technologies, a leader in multi-cloud data management, has found that the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) has the potential to drive major cultural changes in businesses worldwide. Nearly three in four respondents plan to incentivise employees to improve data hygiene and take accountability for data compliance.

An observant security officer at one client site recently noticed a fire in an industrial incinerator. Having recently undergone fire safety training the officer contacted the emergency services before taking measures to reduce the impact of the blaze.
