Locksmith firm ordered out

A judge has ordered a locksmith company out of Tennessee and ordered it to pay a hefty fine for repeatedly breaking the law after NewsChannel 5 Investigates exposed its questionable business practices.

"Dependable Locks did business in Tennessee with complete disregard for the Tennessee laws governing locksmiths," said State attorney Laura Betty to the judge.

Oops! The lock broke officer...

A security firm is to look at changing the locks in its prison escort vans after a violent prisoner escaped.

The inmate, who is serving a seven year sentence for serious assault, claimed an unlocked cage door inside the prison van swung open as it went over a bump in the road whilst transferring him to another prison.
He was caught nearby within 15 minutes.

CBC to explain perimeter surveillance role during half-day integrated security seminar

Screwfix switches to 'British Football Time' for World Cup

Kingfisher-owned trade DIY chain Screwfix is switching its trading hours to 'British Football Time' on days when England are playing during the World Cup. (Er, shouldn't someone have told them it should be English Football Time ... Nice idea though. Ed)

The retailer will shift its store opening times on June 23 for the England match scheduled for 3pm that day, opening an hour earlier at 6am to enable tradesmen to extend their hours and work around the football fixture.

Lock out criminal locksmiths, says trade association

Industry spokesman calls on new government to tighten up industry vetting.

Better regulation of locksmith training is needed in a move to prevent criminals learning a highly lucrative trade, says Steffan George, Development Director at the Master Locksmiths Association (MLA), who called on the new Liberal Conservative coalition to make sure all organisations providing training had proper vetting procedures to keep undesirables out.

The MLA has the power to carry out a Criminal Records Bureau standard level check on potential locksmiths, which provides information on current and spent convictions. But Steffan George believes all industry entrants should be vetted before entering training.

STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN: ASSA Abloy has signed an agreement to acquire Paddock, a leading UK manufacturer focusing on multipoint locks and complementary accessories (via Marketwire).

The company has an extensive distribution network across the UK, which complements ASSA ABLOY's existing Yale multipoint lock business. Routes to market include direct sales to residential OEMs and sales through wholesalers.
