Threats from electronic theft methods
Working with intelligence from police and vehicle theft investigators, SBD's latest report shows the variety of cars from the Kia Sportage to the latest Range Rovers which are now being targeted by thieves using electronic theft methods. The availability of programmable keys and the speed at which today's diagnostic tools operate has meant that some Organised Crime Groups (OCGs) are increasingly adopting this method of theft in preference to targeting the owner's key through house burglary, etc.
The recent ESCAR conference in Frankfurt showed how methods from other industries, such as embedded Hardware Security Modules could be applied to make automotive anti-theft systems more robust.
