The varying methods car thieves use in different countries
Vehicle theft varies across different countries and the solutions used to combat theft also differ. The motivation for theft and the way the stolen vehicle is utilised is influenced by the economic status, geographic location and culture of the country.
Take for instance Brazil - with one of the highest vehicle theft rates in the world, the proceeds from theft are primarily used to fund further criminal activities. In direct contrast to Brazil is Thailand where there is very little vehicle theft within the country but thieves are focused on stealing vehicles from neighbouring countries or importing them from Japan.
SBD has produced 3 reports analysing vehicle theft and insurance in Brazil, Malaysia and Thailand and has also produced an information sheet showing the differences in each of these countries.
