Domain Registration Update Scam

There have been reports from businesses and consumers that they are being contacted by companies claiming that their domain registration needs to be updated for a cost of around £75.

Further investigation by the businesses showed that their domain name information did not need to be re-registered and was safe. In fact Locks and Security News has also received one of these scam invoices. It looked genuine enough to warrant a second look, but of course we realised that Domain Name renewals will only come from the web host so filed it away in the shredder. If you get one, we suggest you do likewise.

Trading Standards are warning businesses and consumers to be wary of scam domain name companies like this contacting them asking for money.

Always be cautious of anyone asking for up front fees. If you have concerns about the validity of your domain name you should check directly with your domain name provider.

If you have experienced a similar issue and would like to report it please contact Consumer Direct on 0808 156 2256.
