SmartWater secures school burglars' convictions

SmartWater-on-skin.jpgThe high-tech crime fighting powers of SmartWater have been praised by Suffolk Police following the successful conviction of a pair of school burglars.

The intruders were marked with the forensically-coded liquid when they triggered the SmartWater security system as they broke into Leiston High School, in Suffolk. They subsequently fled the scene empty handed.

Demonstrating fingerprint biometric reads under water/wearing latex gloves

i-Evo has announced that fingerprint biometrics are now being used on construction sites by UK contractor Willmott Dixon, in medical labs, on heavy equipment and many other places previously considered inappropriate for the technology. Fingerprints are being verified under water and even wearing latex gloves.

"Not that long ago, security designers had to be very careful about deploying fingerprint biometrics," explains Shaun Oakes, managing director of i-Evo.

Record growth in Milestone Systems as global expansion continues

Milestone Systems, a world leader of open platform IP video management software, once again sets records on all levels: The 2010 annual results show a 56 percent increase in revenue to DKK 217.2M (€29.2M) and earnings increased to DKK 21.5M (€2.9M) from DKK 3.9M (€0.5M) in 2009. Milestone, which exports 96 percent of its sales, expects to maintain high growth rates in 2011.

Massive operation to protect Prince William and Kate along the royal wedding route

Every nook and cranny along the route that Prince William and Kate Middleton will take on their wedding day is being searched by police, reports The Daily Mail.

As Union Jack bunting goes up on Regent Street and flags are raised across central London, elsewhere the focus is on more sinister stuff in the form of a huge anti-terrorism operation.

Police have launched one of the biggest security operations the country has ever seen - estimated to cost £20 million - to protect William and Kate and world leaders.

Drains have been lifted, the insides of lampposts scoured and even the fronts of the boxes on pedestrian crossing buttons have been removed as every inch of the wedding route is searched for explosives.

Smoke security device to deter jewel thieves

Jewellers in Leicester have been fitting smoke security devices following a series of robberies.

The smoke screen fills shops with thick smoke, making it impossible for criminals to see anything.

Twice this year the devices have been activated at jewellery shops in Belgrave Road and on both occasions the raiders left empty handed.
Leicestershire police recommended the devices to retailers following a number of recent jewellery store robberies.
